1997 – Banff and Buchan Arts Forum Personal development Award – new work for Scottish Sculpture Open 10

1995 – Udny Memorial Garden Prize, for design of Commemorative Gateway

1988 – John Wood Group Major Sculpture Award

1986 –  Andrew Grant Fund Major Award for Post-Graduate Study, Andrew Grant Fund Travel Award; traveled to Barcelona.

Relevant Professional Experience

June 1989 to date:

Studio Artist; producing one-off art works and editions in  a variety of media.

Public Art Practitioner; consulting and engaging local community groups, designing and making/supervising construction of sculpture and design schemes for public spaces, liaising with commissioning bodies, sub contractors, planners and architects; Project management from initial inquiry stage to ‘final fix’

Work in participatory settings

2014   Founded PaperShift; a mobile papermaking studio working in schools and on social/community initiatives

2014  Artist facilitator at Peace Paper Project, a therapeutic papermaking initiative by Drew Matott and Margaret Mahan at Moray Art Centre, Findhorn

1992 to 2003 –  regularly involved in facilitating discussion within pre-identified community groups as part of planning, designing and making art objects and interventions (mainly in metal), for public spaces. In this role I have worked with community groups, adults and teenagers with learning difficulties, those with a history of mental health problems, elderly care home residents, schoolchildren, tenants associations, out of school clubs and local writing and history associations.

2005 to date – freelance rural development practitioner, now through Blue Nimbus Ltd.

1997 – 2004  rural animateur – Portsoy & District Ltd., then Banffshire Partnership Ltd.

1996-7  Art & Design Tutor – Banff & Buchan College of Further Education

Public Commissions

2003 – Sculpture for Burn Lane, Inverurie Town Centre; commissioned by Aberdeenshire Towns Partnership

2000 – Sculptural Seating feature for Fordyce Quincentennial; commissioned by Fordyce Village Association

1997 – Seating/Tree guard Feature for Stirling Bridge, Battle Centenary; commissioned by Stirling Council.

1996 – Sculptural Seating feature for Alloa Town Centre (Clackmannan Council)

1996 – Extension of Artwork to mark the source of the Mersey; Howard Street, Stockport Commissioned by Stockport MBC; Funded by  Foundation for Sport and the Arts & the Mersey Basin Trust.

1996 – Entrance Scheme for Larbert High School. Commissioned by Falkirk  Council

1995 – Mobile wind-activated sculpture for new build School at Kinlochbervie. Funded by Highland Regional Council.

1995 – Community Artwork to mark the source of the Mersey; Howard Street, Stockport. Commissioned by Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council.

1994 – Mobile wind-activated sculpture and decorative door handles for New build High School at Gairloch, Funded by Scottish Arts Council and Highland Regional Council.

1993 – Series of ornamental railings for new build tenement in Peel Street, Glasgow, commissioned. by Partick Housing Assoc. and Glasgow West Conservation Trust.

1990 – Finial for 1 Elie Street, Glasgow, commissioned by Partick Housing Association.

Other Activities

2013 – Opened Yellow House Gallery, with inaugural show of new work alongside Vivien Hendry, Elaine Williams and Isaac Jackson

2012 -Participated in North East Open Studios event with body of new work at Durn Hill Farm, Banff alongside ceramicist Kerstin Gren

2012 – New Work – Inaugural Exhibition at Michelle Walkers Art Gallery, Banff.

2011- New body of work shown as part of Banffshire Artists Collective, Banff Castle, Banff
